In love

After watching a movie with Sadie and Ella last night they were comparing their favorite scenes. Ella said, "I love the part when they are talking about different things and then they realize they are talking about each other, because they are in love." Sadie said, "I liked the part where even though they were mad at each other they looked at each other and they knew they were still in love."

Ah, love. It is magical. Those first days when you realize that you want to be together always. The times when you look at each other and feel the butterflies in your tummy. The love you feel when you look at your new baby in your arms and then smile at your wonderful husband (even if you may have wanted to kill him just moments before.) The love you feel with those first steps and first words. Or at the end of the day when the person you love is by your side.

But today, as I was cleaning poop off the floor, I realized there is a different part of love too. It is the part that allows you to hold your child as they vomit all over you and not dry heave yourself. Or makes you able to clean up after someone takes off their dirty diaper and tracks it every where, without being furious about the whole thing (okay a little mad.) That part of love isn't as pretty; and I'm sure that when the couple looks at each other at the end of the movie they never imagine the kind of love that lies in their future. But at the end of the day that is what gets us through the craziness. That within those walls, you love each other and the gross messes or mean words that sometimes creep in won't change that. Love is what gets you through.

Thank you for the reminder! Love remains after everything is passed. :)
