Beach Combing at Sunrise
September 23rd
My morning started with kids, just like every morning, but this morning they want to go down to the water.
If we can get there before the others, we can find all the shells and keep them for ourselves. They are convinced that there are people that walk along the beach every morning collecting shells to sell in the shops.
(I probably had something to do with this idea, because I thought the same thing at their age.) If we can just get there early enough.
So we get up, get dressed and Sadie, Ella, and I hurry to the beach. The first thing we spot is a starfish, washed up on shore, beyond saving, so now a souvenir.
We find mussels and parts of shells, but not much else. The morning is wonderful, warm and bright, a rare, fog-free September morning. Dogs and their owners are playing catch among the waves. Seagulls and pelicans are catching their breakfast, as we turn back to go get ours.
I could get used to mornings like this.
