Maisy Update
Because Maisy didn't bear weight on her legs for the first year or more, she need a little extra support. So she got new braces for her feet. She has a walker at school and one at home and gets around pretty well in it, although she is easily distracted and doesn't steer very well.
Verbally Maisy is making more sounds. She says Dada and ya, and something similar in sound to her name (kind of sounds like "yayay".) She is also playing with her sounds and making mouth sounds, such as smacking her lips and clicking her tongue. Her vocabulary of signs is also growing, which I love.
Her curls are still as wonderful as ever. But we let her hair grow out a bit, which led to a right of passage, pigtails. I almost feel like this is a developmental stage, the pigtails and bows stage. Her bus driver made fun of me for putting pigtails in her hair (some fairly racist comment I won't repeat), but it's all good because she got a new bus driver.
Which leads me to school. She loves school! She loves her teachers, her classmates, her books, her classroom, all of it; just ask her if she loves it and we get an enthusiastic "YA."
Overall, she is a very happy girl. She loves to look at books and magazines. She loves music and Mickey Mouse. She loves action songs that she can "sing" along with. And pretty much loves life. She is an amazing example of overcoming obstacles, any one of the complications of open-heart surgery that she was confronted with in those first six months could have taken her life. And yet here we are with a beautiful little girl whose strong will and kind heart teach me every day.

It sounds like Maisy is doing great. I love hearing about all the good things she is doing! We really should get together for a playdate one of these days so Aubrey can get to know her:)
Maisy is a beautiful little girl. I love reading what you write about her. You are such an incredible mom.
What Cynthia said pretty much sums it up!!! So I have to say DITTO!!!
